Producer or Consumer thee?

I got my thinking cap on and... have you ever thought about measuring the amount of time you spend producing something and comparing it with the amount of time you spend consuming?

You can apply this to nearly anything, such as: I spent time writing this blog (15 mins), I helped my children with their homework (20 mins), I grew some vegetables (60 mins), I watched spooks (60 mins), I ate my dinner (30 mins), I designed a new vacuum cleaner with a book shelf (10 days), etc.

Now I realise that you need to consume to survive, but I was wondering if the balance has tipped too far in this direction. We consume electricity, entertainment, food, roads, car tyres, sweets, gadgets, bogeys, other people's time, Christmas, Easter, Birthdays, holidays... and so on.

So, how about follow three simple steps to crack this:

1. Start to think and measure the things you do in terms of producing or consuming
2. Review the result to see what percentage of time you spend producing and consumiung
3. Try to swing the balance more towards producing, one day at a time.

Let me know how you got on and if your life is better or worse for it!
